If I ask you about an office or a working place, what comes to your mind at first? Probably, a building consists of cubicles which are lesser or more same in size and people working in there without concerning each other. Most of us will imagine more or less same this picture. Am I right?


The picture shown in the above discussion is a picture of conventional working space. However, many studies had shown that working in these conventional working spaces causes stress-related problems as well lower productivity as this system of working spaces creates an isolation of a person so that his working proficiency and productivity affects negatively. As many studies done on this subject a system named as Coworking is coined which is supposed to counter the negative points of conventional working.


Brad Neuberg is credited with coining the term ‘Coworking ‘. He explained the purpose of this working approach as to combine the independence of freelancing and community of an office space. We can define the coworking as a style of working that involves a shared workplace, often an office and independent activity.


This concept of coworking is favoring the frequent travelers and freelancers. While a supporter of conventional working is concerning about the privacy during working. However, any way coworking is getting winds in developing countries like India. There are many coworking spaces are founding their presence. Some of the names are as follow-



Bangalore Alpha Lab

Location:  1316/C, 9th Cross, JP Nagar 2nd Phase, Bangalore and 114, 6th Cross, 6th Block, Koramangala, Bangalore

About: Bangalore Alpha Lab is a community of entrepreneurs coming together to interact and communicate ideas while they launch their startups. The team believes in creating a culture where members keep each other inspired, motivated and help move forward.

Benefits: It offers Wi-Fi connectivity, flexible seating, mailbox services, and conference room for two hours free per week per team. It also provides tea, coffee, cupboard/storage and scanning/print out facilities. Laptops and 3G/4G dongles are given on rental to the members.

Membership charges: Full member charges are INR 4,000/month (US$64), guest access — INR 1,000/5 days (US$16), virtual member — INR 1,000/month (US$16) and day pass — INR 250/day (US$4)



Startup Warehouse

Location: Diamond District, Old Airport Road, Bangalore

About: As part of the 10,000 Start-ups’ initiative, NASSCOM Startup Warehouse has been introduced to create a micro-ecosystem where early-stage startup founders can work together, share their learnings and best practices with each other. It is the first co-working facility in Bangalore provided by the Government of Karnataka. Recently, a second such facility has been opened in Kolkata, West Bengal.

Benefits: A well-connected, plug-and-play working space offered to startups for the first six months of their operations with access to the Internet, tea/coffee, and logistics.

Membership charges: The Bangalore Warehouse charges a monthly rental of INR 3,500 (US$57) for each seat. The Kolkata warehouse charges a monthly rental of INR 2,500 (US$40) for each seat (exclusive of service tax). The selection is finalized by a committee comprising stakeholders from the government as well as the industry.



91 Springboard

Location: Mohan Estate Delhi and Sector 18 Gurgaon

About: 91 Springboard has created a collaborative environment for entrepreneurs, mentors and investors to connect with each other and tap into the collective knowledge of the community. Located in a renovated 10,000 sq.ft basement in Mohan Estate, Mathura Road, 91, Springboard Delhi has quickly grown into a thriving community of over 100 co-workers in the city. Investopad

Location: Sector 32, Gurgaon

About: Investopad, a campus for technology startups, aims at helping tech-entrepreneurs at the startup stage by providing training and access to facilities for learning, research, and development in the field of technology enterprise.

Benefits: It provides dedicated work co-stations, in-house teams and experts in digital marketing, visual and UX/UI design, customer service to help develop strategies, professional advice, consultation and mentorship in areas of design and technical services, user experience design, legal and intellectual property rights, banking, financial, accounting and managerial services. It also offers audio-visual classrooms, tutorials, consultation and conference rooms, high-speed fiber-optic Internet with dedicated bandwidth and a range of startup library resources including startup manuals, marketing guides and skill books.

Membership charges: Community plan (30 days a month with no allocated seating) costs INR 8,000 per seat (US$130), and dedicated plan (30 days a month with assigned seating) costs INR 10,000 per seat (US$162).

Location: Hauz Khas Delhi, Church Street Bangalore, Colaba Mumbai

Stirring Minds

About: Stirring Minds is an initiative to support, grow and nurture the entrepreneurial mind. It has set up a more than 8,000 sq.ft co-working Hub at central Delhi, with a node office in the Bay Area, California (Silicon Valley). It intends to connect the Indian startup ecosystem with that of the Valley.

Benefits: From high-speed Internet to coffee, printers and meeting rooms, everything in the space is shared by everyone. Location: Hitec City, Hyderabad and Banjara Hills, Hyderabad

About: Cowork Zone provides a platform for startups to connect with mentors, investors and other entrepreneurs. It helps startup teams to share knowledge in a centralized place that is organized for collaborative work.
